Bengaluru, 29 July: Around 10-13 per cent Indians hold leadership positions in GCCs (Global Capability Centres), a study by ANSR Research and TeamLease Digital reveals.
Such leadership positions are likely to increase the importance of Indians in the global corporate structure.
Currently, about 100 Indian Chief Investment Officers and Senior Vice Presidents are employed in GCCs with salaries falling in the million-dollar club. This number is likely to increase to around 150 by the end of the year, the report said.
According to the study, around 5,000 Indian leaders are there in various global roles, which is likely to increase to around 25,000 in the near future.
The Economic Survey 2024 recently showed that GCCs by multinational companies would contribute roughly 3.5 per cent of India’s GDP by 2030, generating an estimated revenue of $121 billion by then.
A report by industry body Nasscom shows that the country is home to 1,523 GCCs by the end of FY23. This number is likely to touch 1,900 by 2025. As per an EY study, these GCCs combinedly employ around 2 million staffers in the country. Apart from Bengaluru and Hyderabad, other tier-I Indian cities, such as Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Pune have also seen setting up of many GCCs in recent years.
According to the ANSR Research & TeamLease Digital, the demand for niche skills in areas such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML), Engineering, Research & Development (ER&D), among others, are on the rise.
While last fiscal year, most IT services companies halted new hiring, GCCs had led the show in terms of headcount addition. Sources in the know said that engineers are preferring jobs in GCCs over Indian IT firms on the back of better compensation, challenging work and work-life balance.
